The City of Meriden Fishing Derby

The annual fishing derby at Hubbard Park continues to grow each year with more prizes for the children who participate. This is a special event for many of the children of Meriden who otherwise would never get exposed to this wonderful sport.

St Jude’s Day

Each year, the members of the club go above and beyond when it comes to raising money for St. Jude’s. Members, their families and friends turn out in numbers to support this worthy cause and raise money for St Jude’s Children’s Hospital.

It all started about twenty-five years ago. The first St. Jude Days were headed up by Wayne Valerie a long standing member of the Meriden Rod and Gun Club in conjunction with United Bow hunters of Connecticut most of the money was made by pledge sheets you had sponsors for your pledge sheet for so much a point and them you used your bow and arrow to garner points.

The first couple of years Meriden Rod and Gun Club averaged around $4,000 at the club function another 15k or so was raised by the other clubs.

We had a falling out with UBC and that’s when CT Shooting Sportsmen For St. Jude came into being. The last couple of years have been spectacular for the club with close to $25,000 being donated.

Hunter Safety/Archery Safety

We run Conservation Education/Firearms Safety courses through out the year, these are administered by the Department of Environmental Protection’s Wildlife Division. All our instructors are certified and there are no fees for any of the courses and all materials are provided free of charge.
